Homeschooled Students

Welcome, Homeschoolers!

Covenant College enjoys a large number of homeschooled students in our student body. In fact, our population of students who come to Covenant from a homeschool background has risen from 4% in 1995 to nearly 30% today!

Here we address a few topics that homeschooled students and parents are often interested in. If you have a question we don't answer here, please contact us, and we'll be glad to talk with you!

Each homeschool applicant is considered for merit-based scholarships and institutional grants based on their application for admission. However, homeschooled students are awarded our $1,000 Homeschool Grant in addition to any other financial aid they may receive. Eligibility requirements: A high school program has been completed (evident with a graduation date on a transcript or a letter from parents), or The student has reached or is beyond the age of 16, which is the age of compulsory attendance in the state of Georgia.

Homeschooled students are eligible for federal aid through submitting the FAFSA if:

  1. You have completed a high school program (evident with a graduation date on a transcript or letter from your parents), or
  2. You are beyond the age of compulsory attendance of the state in which the college is located. The age of compulsory attendance in Georgia is 16.

Please see the Costs & Financial Aid section for more information.

Covenant College offers students an academically rigorous liberal arts education, equipping them to explore and express the preeminence of Jesus Christ in all things. Consistent with this mission, the average freshman has the following academic record from high school:

  • 3.44 - 3.89 GPA unweighted
  • 81 - 96 CLT range
  • 24 - 30 ACT composite range
  • 1130 - 1350 SAT range

While this is the average academic profile that characterizes our student body, potential applicants should keep in mind that we consider every application on an individual basis. Anyone interested in a Covenant College education should apply.

Your high school curriculum should include at least 16 units, with each unit representing one year of satisfactory work in a particular subject. We recommend that your units be distributed as follows:

  • English: 4 units
  • Math: 3 units
  • History or Social Studies: 2 units
  • Natural Science: 2 units
  • Foreign Language: 2 units of the same language
  • Electives: 3 or 4 units

All Covenant applicants are required to submit a complete transcript of all high school work from ninth through twelfth grades. For homeschool students, an umbrella homeschool organization or cohort or the teaching parents may submit the transcript. Your transcript should include:

  • Years of study
  • Course titles
  • Letter grades
  • Credits or carnegie units completed
  • Grading scale
  • Cumulative GPA
  • Graduation date

If you need assistance creating a transcript, see the free, downloadable transcript resources below to either edit electronically or print and fill in. This is not a requirement, it is simply a free resource we offer that can be used by an applicant and even shared with other homeschooling families.

If you are completing any dual-enrollment courses (college-level courses that you want to use for both high school and college credit), please indicate the name of the college on your application for admission. Your dual enrollment coursework must be included on your high school transcript, and an official transcript from each institution attended should be submitted in order to determine transfer credit.

All applicants are required to submit an Academic Reference Form completed by someone who knows them in an academic setting. This form cannot be completed by a parent or any other relative. You may ask another teacher, tutor, music instructor, coach, or even a Sunday School teacher to complete this form. While the required form must be completed by someone other than a relative, we welcome any additional comments from your parents that will help us get to know you better as a student. Your parent(s) may write a letter of recommendation in addition to the Academic Reference Form.
